Mass Media:

2009 - 2014  Mass Media: Today and Yesterday

Since 2009, Gustav Metzger has developed an open engagement with the topic of extinction in Europe and the USA through this work by inviting the public to consider and cut out articles and images from an archive of thousands of newspapers. In its first iteration, Mass Media: Yesterday and Today formed a central feature of the 2009 Serpentine exhibition Gustav Metzger: Decades 1959-2009. Further exhibitions of the work have taken place at: e-flux project space, New York (2011); Mass Media / Media Mess, Christine Koenig Gallery, Vienna (2013); Liquid Assets, Ausstellung steirischer herbst, Vienna; the group show Arena, CoCA, Znaki Czasu, Poland (2014); Facing Extinction, James Hockey Gallery, UCA Farnham (2014) and currently, Facing Extinction, Herbert Read Gallery, Canterbury, UK (2014).

Over time this archival map will continue to catalog the locations that Mass Media: Yesterday and Today travels to.
